Experts Ready to Help With Your Fitness Goals

Improved physical health, weight loss and regular exercise are among the top New Year’s resolutions. As a result, the beginning months of the year, gyms and fitness classes will be flooded with Resolutioners and Regulars alike. As the months progress however, the predictable trickle down effect of gym and class attendance occurs.

With my experience as a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and health coach, I have grown to learn that this can often be due to lack of know-how, accountability and support. So to help you on your journey to a better version  of yourself, here is a short list of the top experts that you should seek out and what they can help you with during your unique journey.

 

Medical Doctor (M.D.)

Your M.D. can treat you for illnesses and injuries. Additionally, this medical expert can order necessary diagnostic tests, refer to specialist on an as needed basis, prescribe medication, diagnose health conditions, track and record health related information, etc. As a result, your M.D. can offer expert advice to help you develop the appropriate plan to reach your personal physical health goals, as well as provide you with clinical values that can help you measure your progress such as body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol levels and more.

 

 

Physical Therapist (PT)

A  licensed PT may be on your M.D.’s list of professional referrals for when you may require rehabilitation, treatment and/or prevention planning for chronic illness, injuries or other health related problems. PTs typically prescribe exercises, stretches and other modalities in order to help you decrease pain and improve mobility.

 

Chiropractor

A Chiropractor, sometimes known as the “back experts” use hands-on manipulation and other alternative treatments on the spine. The applied treatments support the idea that proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal system, more specifically the spine, will allow the body to move freely and heal. Thus, a chiropractor may be an alternative treatment to your plan in order to avoid unwanted medical treatment and/or maintain spinal health.

 

 

 

 

Certified Group Fitness Instructor (CGFI)

A CGFI, normally hired by a fitness facility, is a trained fitness professional who seeks to demonstrate, encourage, motivate and instruct a groups of various ages and fitness levels.  Most instructors obtain certifications and choose to specialize in a type of exercise, for example, Bootcamp, Aqua-Zumba, SPIN, HIIT, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, CrossFit and so on. Consequently,  a CGFI can the perfect accountability partner for your 30+ minute workout.

 

Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)

A CPT can typically be found at a fitness, clinical or other wellness related facility in order to be hired by an individual, couple or small group, who seeks to schedule a one-on-one appointment with a trained professional. Trainers like a CGFI, can specialize in fields like general fitness, weight loss, sport skills, rehabilitations, etc.  If you seek a regular appointment for accountability, motivation and knowledge in order to provide expert advice and results, a trainer may be for you!

  • Exercise Physiologist
  • Strength and Conditioning specialist
