Ways to Detox Your Air Naturally

Clean, dust and filter. These are three traditional cleaning methods that have undoubtedly helped keep our homes feeling tidy and fresh. However,  there are ways you improve these solutions to better detox your home’s air and keep your health functioning optimally. Let’s take a look!

Clean

Cleansers that you use to wipe down your kitchen counters, deep-cleanse the bathroom and mop up that sticky mess on the floors can be filled with toxic chemicals like ammonia, 2-Butoxyethanol, Phthalates and Triclosan. Instead choose pre-made natural cleaners without the chemicals that you can’t even pronounce. Or, make your own! White vinegar, baking soda, water and lemon essential oil makes a great alternative to your all-purpose household cleaner.

 

Dust

One of the most common (willingly) forgotten domestic cleaning duties is dusting. But dusting can come in many different forms. Tiny dust particles can enter your lungs and increase respiratory problems. So wipe down commonly used surfaces weekly along with washing sheets in hot water and vacuum carpets with a vacuum containing a HEPA Filter. These special filters allow dust to be filtered and removed rather than stirred around.

 

Filter

Yeah, that’s right. The air filter in your house can play a vital role in keeping out unwanted allergens and toxic byproducts from outside. Without proper filtering in your home, you may experience headaches, fatigue and/or complications with asthma. Make sure to replace your home’s air filter at least bi-monthly to monthly. If you have indoor pets, you may want to consider more frequent changes, and if you have been diagnosed with a respiratory condition, you may want to try a HEPA filter.

Try a Himalayan salt lamp

Salt lamps can cleanse, neutralize and remove dust particles from your environment.

 

Replace your candles with beeswax candles.

Candles might be pretty, but they can contain harmful chemicals. So opt for beeswax which can ionize your air and neutralize toxic compounds.

 

Scent your home with essential oils.

Spray air fresheners often contain toxic chemicals, so instead pick your favorite diffusible essential oil scent and let it fill the air.

 

Invest in detoxifying indoor plants.

Plants like aloe vera, bamboo palm and English ivy can remove toxins from your environment and purify the air.
