Menu Monday: Nutrition Experts

Are you guilty of turning to Dr. GOOGLE for everything pertaining to your personal diet?

Well as you likely predicted, this is not always the safest choice, nor will you receive the most direct personal answers that you are searching for. For more info on the qualifications of giving health advice, click here. Instead,  let’s turn to the actual experts.

Medical Doctor (M.D.)

Your M.D. can treat you for illnesses and diet related conditions. Additionally, this medical expert can: order necessary diagnostic tests, refer to specialists on an as-needed basis, prescribe medication, diagnose health conditions, track and record health related information, etc. As a result, your M.D. can offer expert advice to help you develop the appropriate plan to reach your personal diet goals as well as provide you with clinical values that can help you measure your progress such as body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol levels and more.

Registered Dietitian (RD)

According to nutritioned.org, a RD “is a trained nutrition professional who has met the strict educational and experiential standards set forth by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).” Specialities for RDs include: sports nutrition, disordered eating, weight management, functional medicine, food allergies, senior health, diabetes, hypertension, women’s health and more.  Dependent on a RD’s specialty and population served, he or she may be required to provide menu planning, education on eating habits, health conditions and disorders, dietary tips and so on. If you seek direct dietary help, you should find a RD who specializes in what you need. Here is our Wellview team:

When it comes to diet, a CHWC can meet you where you are, offer advice, brainstorm new solutions, help you strategize, hold you accountable for goals and so on. If you seek longterm behavioral change around your diet, a CHWC may be the supporter you need.
