4 tips to cure your vacation blues

 

It’s vacation season! Vacations are often a blissful time spent essentially in another world, at your own pace and normally with those you love. A vacation may be the closest you get to your own personal Utopia. Utopia sounds perfect, until the week after when you have to return to the daily grind of work and life. So, here are a few quick tips to keep you focused on your transition back to the real world. 

 

Plan ahead.

You can predict that the first few days back will be spent playing catch up and transitioning back to the flow of your routine. So make time to transition and catch up rather than scheduling projects, meetings, errands and everything else on day one.

 

Sleep routine. 

Whether you are suffering from jet lag or just having trouble getting away from the bliss of vacay, getting back to your regular sleep patterns will be key to everything else going on in your life. Give yourself a few days or so to readjust and rest, but not too long. You don’t want to get lazy.

Fun fact: your body takes about a day per time zone traveled to readjust. 

 

 

 

 

Lean into the vacay bliss.

There’s a reason that a vacation feels so good. Research shows that a vacation can decrease anxiety and depression, and can even make work-related stress even easier to cope with. So take moments throughout your day to reflect on your trip and appreciate your restored energy and mindset. 

 

Give yourself permission to reset.

Vacations can affect everything from sleep to eating habits to exercise and everything in between. It’s okay to start back at your exercise routine or eating healthy. After all, we can all use a fresh start from time to time!
