Wellbeing Wednesday: How Health Coaching Works

How working with a Certified Health and Wellness Coach means you will start to thrive.

A Certified Health and Wellness Coach (CHWC) is typically thought to help you get back to a regular exercise routine, start eating healthy and improve your overall clinical wellbeing (blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and so on). This is partly true. However, the psychology of coaching is in fact a very large spectrum enabling health to be defined very broadly: health-nutrition, exercises, stress, work/life balance, healthy relationships, sleep, tobacco cessation and so much more.

Measuring client success and happiness in a field that covers almost everything related to health can be rather difficult. However, an easy way to understand the impact that working with a CHWC can actually have on your life is easily seen through common feedback from current clients. Here is what they say:

“I feel heard.”

In a world where you may seldom feel heard (or even seen), the space your CHWC holds for you can do wonders. The process presented by the psychology of coaching actually allows your coach to meet you where you are in your readiness to change, assume your competencies and help facilitate intentional thought around what is important to you. You are the center of what a CHWC does, and we at Wellview Health wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I have accountability for  MY goal(s).”

“I knew that if I didn’t do it (insert goal), I would have to tell you (CHWC).” Personally, I hear this a lot. Knowing that you verbally committed to someone else and that doing your goal is connected to the bigger picture of what you want and need in your life can be very solidifying.

“I never feel judged.”

Friends and family can be some of the best support you will ever get, but do they reserve judgement? The coach approach disables the “judgement bone” so that your underlying wants and needs are actually on display in the conversation. Your CHWC is simply with you to reflect back what he or she is hearing so that you can gain a better understanding of yourself.
