You’ve likely heard the television ad for the phone service that boasts doing “two things at once” is better than doing only one thing at a time.
Though I would agree that talking on the phone to a friend while searching for a restaurant convenient for you both may very well be an efficient use of the “two things at once” selling point. However, in a coaching session, doing more than one thing at a time can be distracting, to say the least.
In this age of technology, much of our coaching is done by telephone, therefore we are not (usually) face to face with you, the participant. We all love and appreciate the convenience of telephonic coaching sessions since in many cases some would likely not be able to take advantage of Wellview Health abundance of services if it meant physically going to appointments. However, this convenience can come with potential drawbacks. If we are doing more than one thing at a time, we are likely doing neither of them well.
As a coach, I often imagine that you, the participant, hold a sign that says, “Be with” me. If possible, I have a photo pulled up on the screen or even just in my mind, to hold space for you. I imagine if I were you, what would I want from my coach. I would want to know that you are truly with me and that I can tell if you are. I can tell by your reflections, questions, and summaries, each revealing if you are here with me on my journey or if you are somewhere else. I want to know you have the skills, tools, and services that can help me to reach my goals, and I am counting on you to do just one thing – be with me – as I work through the changes that I want to make. I look forward to our time of communication and connection.
As a Wellview Health Advisor, I may have more than one person that I will be working with today, but when I am with you, I am with YOU. It is YOU Time! In coaching, we are called to “be with” participants. This doesn’t mean being present by physically sitting with you, but we want you to feel like we are! We want you to know it, feel it, and come to welcome it. We will be present, ready to listen and provide a health partnership that you can trust.
As a Wellview Health Participant, you may have many things on your plate today, and a good deal going on around you that will need your attention, but if you invest yourself in this partnership and protect your pre-scheduled 20-minute coaching session, you will feel like you are in the room with us too! So, being present with your Health Advisor during your session can make all the difference. Set aside the time on your calendar, and be ready, because it is YOU Time!
Your Health Advisor is trained in the powerful concept of being present, mindfully prepared and ready to help you in each session. We hope you will feel our presence right through the telephone. This is the meaningful work of Wellview Health.
Try it: Next session, clear your mind, clear your area, and focus on being with your Health Advisor, and rest assured that she is doing the same. It’s YOU time!
